We began a discussion last week regarding God’s love.
It does not change based on our circumstances!
Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death?…No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. Romans 8:35 and 37 NLT
Even more importantly God himself does not change.
Every good action and every perfect gift is from God. These good gifts come down from the Creator of the sun, moon, and stars, who does not change like their shifting shadows. ~ James 1:17 NCV
Not only are His affections for us unchanging but He, himself will remain unchanged.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. ~ Hebrews 13:8 NCV
I rarely accept change easily. I mourn the passing of the seasons. I am still not quite ready to let go of summer while I have dear friends who are joyfully announcing that we have less than 100 days until Christmas. NO, don’t say that to me!
Change so often is viewed negatively because it causes us to fear what we do not know. But one thing we do know…wherever we go, even if we arrive shipwrecked and afraid, God will be there with unchanging love.
In Acts 16:22-34 is the story of Paul and Silas who have been beaten and imprisoned. Yet, they sing hymns to God.
“Paul and Silas did not interpret God by their circumstances…No matter what our experience, the truth about God is always true. Jesus is risen. We have a God in heaven, a loving heavenly Father who longs for us to be in His family. We have a Lord who never leaves us or forsakes us…Keep your song no matter how dark your night or how grievous your hurt.” ~ George O. Wood (Acts: The Holy Spirit at Work in Believers, 2010 Global University, p. 194-195)
Take some time to meditate on God’s unchanging character.
Give thanks for His love that remains unchanged.
What is your response to His Unchanging love…
